Outdoor Weddings can Save You Money!

Our Outdoor Wedding Saved Us A Fortune

Saving Cash On Your Wedding Isn't Hard!

David and Joelle's Money Saving Tips :
1) Have a wedding outdoors instead of renting an expensive space. We had our wedding in Arches National Park (see the photo to the left) and it was simply stunning. It was a sunrise service, and I think it cost us $50 to secure the location (National Park Fee).
2) Do you really need the most expensive wine for everyone during the entire event? Have a bottle or two that are really nice for the bride and groom, and then order some good, inexpensive stuff for the rest of the group and event. There are some Chilean and Australian wines that are outstanding and very inexpensive!

3) Most local and national supermarkets have very competent bakeries. We ordered our wedding cake from a cake shop in the location where our wedding was to be, and when the cake was delivered, it was a complete disaster. It was delivered in a crusty, greasy egg-carton and "September" was spelled wrong. It tasted like cardboard and old socks, honestly! The biggest insult was that it was quite expensive.

So...at the last minute, we went to the local City Market (a large chain supermarket) and their bakery put together a beautiful wedding cake for us on the fly for about 1/5 of the price of the disaster from the other bakery.

4) Consider a "Family Only" wedding. Nowadays, most 'friends' don't enjoy going to weddings. It takes away from their work, families, and costs a tidy sum to purchase plane tickets and travel arrangements. On your end, you have to feed every guest at the dinner or reception, and sometimes pay for their lodging, which quickly adds up. Joelle and I had a "family only" wedding, and believe it or not, all of our friends completely understood, and are still our friends! No explanation needed and lots of money saved!
5) Create your own wedding flowers
6) Have a friend be your "officiant." We went to our cousin's wedding this winter, and his good friend became certified to be a wedding officiant. You can become certified online, and it isn't hard or expensive to do so. This will save you on the cost of hiring a minister, or officiant.
7) Photograph your own wedding, or have a friend or family member do so for you!
8) Consider a used wedding ring, wedding band or even a used wedding dress. There is no shame in 'recycling' what someone else can't use. The only person who will know the difference is YOU!
