In Defense of the "Family Only" wedding:

I have heard it time and time again in my old "banquet and catering" days. It's the tired, worn out bride and groom who declare that their wedding has gotten out of control. It's "too big" and "too expensive" and they feel like they have lost control.

One solution to this is to have a "family only" wedding. By doing this, you will most certainly save money, time, and your sanity! These are becoming more common, as the cost of travel has gone up and most people simply don't have the time to take a week off of work to attend a wedding.

 
Other Wedding and Local Services for Flagstaff :

I actually grew up in Flagstaff, so writing about why it is such a fantastic place to get married was not hard at all. I spent about 20 years there, and yes, it has grown and changed over the years, but all of those things that make Flagstaff special are still alive and well.

My sister and I grew up attending the Federated Community Church right off of downtown Flagstaff. This is one of the oldest, most established churches in town, and has roots back to the origins of Flagstaff in the late 1800's. It is Methodist. This church is beautiful, and is set in a lovely area with plenty of trees. My cousin got married there years ago, and the church did such a great job of accommodating his ceremony. It is in an ideal location, close to lodging and restaurants. Old city park is just up the street as well. The church is located at 400 W. Aspen Ave in Flagstaff right by the public library.

But this church isn't the only thing about Flagstaff that I can enlighten you about. Let's say you are the "outdoorsy" type, and would like to have a wedding reflective of that personality. Why not book the Hart Prairie Lodge up at the Arizona Snowbowl for your ceremony? This would put you up at about 9,000 feet, and you would be in the midst of one of the most spectacular pine forests in the world! The Grand Canyon can be seen from here as well. The lodge is rustic, but modern at the same time, and can hold a wedding of many sizes. My good friend Mike, who I grew up with in Flagstaff, had his wedding here. It is about 15 or so miles out of town, but the drive and location is well worth it.

Flagstaff the city offers all of the wedding amenities, locations, and bridal shops that you would need to support your wedding. It also offers a lot of recreational opportunities for your wedding party. That's important, as many of them probably have traveled from great distances for the wedding. Flagstaff has some great mountain biking, hiking and golf. There are plenty of indoor activities as well. Several movie theaters, bowling, and great shopping and dining can be found in Flagstaff.

Getting to Flagstaff isn't hard. Phoenix is about 2 1/2 hours away, and Sky Harbor International Airport connects to just about any major city. Flagstaff also has its own community airport that will save you the drive to and from Phoenix. I-17 can be a bit hairy at times.

We hope that you would consider Flagstaff for your wedding. There is too much about it to be able to fit into an essay here, but trust me. I spent 20 years there, and it holds a very special place in my soul. A great place to "seal the deal" with your soulmate!
